Metro marks Independence Day

JAKARTA (JP): Metro department store will commemorate the country's 54th Independence Day at Plaza Senayan in Central Jakarta with traditional dance, fashion shows and a concert.

The event, scheduled to start at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, will feature the traditional Angklung bamboo music of West Java, a fashion show of Nelwan Anwar's ethnically themed collection, a Balinese dance and West Java's Degung and Central Java's gamelan music performances.

The show on Sunday will feature an Independence Day concert by the Twilite Orchestra under director Addie M.S. Patriotic songs will be featured, including H. Mutahar's Syukur (Blessed) and Hari Merdeka (Independence Day), Maladi's Di Bawah Sinar Bulan Purnama (Under the Moonlight) and the Pancasila marching tune.

The concert is scheduled for 4 p.m. (edt)
