Metareum gets strong backing

BANDUNG, West Java: The West Java chapter of the Moslem- oriented United Development Party (PPP) affirmed yesterday they would rally behind Ismail Hasan Metareum's bid to seek re- election as party chairman.

The chapter's resolution was taken in a meeting attended by chairmen of all 25 of PPP's regency branches from all over the province.

Metareum obtain strong support from 21 branches but was rejected by rest.

PPP will elect its new chairman in a national congress to be held in Jakarta later this month. Five prominent party figures are vying for the top spot. (pan)
