Megawati's supporters to hold victory parade

BOGOR (JP): Approximately 40,000 supporters of the Indonesian Democratic Party for Struggle (PDI Perjuangan) will take to the streets on Wednesday in a victory parade to celebrate the party's win of a majority of seats at the House of Representatives (DPR) and the Bogor Council, a party official said.

Head of the Bogor Chapter of the party's Regional Executive Board Moch. Said said on Monday the parade, to be officially kicked off by Puis Lustrilanang, head of the parade's organizing committee, would begin at 10 a.m. at the SMEA Tanah Sereal economic senior secondary school's open field.

"We apologize beforehand to Bogor residents if heavy traffic congestion occurs later due to the parade," Said said.

Street attractions such as the Chinese Barong-Sai dance and the traditional reog dance from Ponorogo, East Java, will be held during the parade and flowers will be distributed to the public as souvenirs.

To avoid unwanted incidents from happening, Said urged all PDI Perjuangan supporters joining the parade to wear the party's attributes.

Bogor Police have approved the presence of a 200-strong security force from the party to secure the parade.(21/ylt)
