Megawati wins Yogya support

YOGYAKARTA: The Deputy Chief of the Democratic Party of
Struggle (PDI Perjuangan) in Yogyakarta here issued a strong
warning that delegates from the provincial chapter must vote for
incumbent Megawati Soekarnoputri in next month's congress in
Semarang, Central Java.

Suprapto claimed that party regional branches -- Kulonprogo,
Bantul, Sleman, and Gunung Kidul mayoralties -- in the Yogyakarta
chapter have already committed their support for Megawati's re-
election as party chief.

Suprapto told The Jakarta Post. that all twenty eight
delegates from the Yogyakarta regional branches going to the
congress must vote for Megawati or face a "party's trial".

He said any deviation was tantamount to a betrayal.(44)
