Megawati to open GMNI Congress

SEMARANG, Central Java: Vice President Megawati Soekarnoputri is slated to open the second congress of the National Communications Alumni Forum of the Indonesian Nationalist Students Movement (GMNI) here, which will be held from June 1 to June 3.

Congress event coordinator Turtiantoro told journalists on Thursday that the congress would also be attended by noted speakers, such as Muslim scholar Nurcholish Madjid, political observer Cornelis Lay and Muhaimin Iskandar, the secretary- general of National Awakening Party (PKB).

"Economic scholars are also invited to give lectures, such as Rizal Ramli, Sri Mulyani Indrawati and Faisal Basri," Turtiantoro said.

"We (GMNI Alumni) wish to discuss and come up with solutions to the country's problems from nationhood to economic recovery," he said, adding that former leader and patron of the group Siswono Yudohusodo would host the event. (har/edt)
