Megawati reminded of her promise

JAKARTA: President Megawati Soekarnoputri has been reminded to fulfill very soon her promise to provide the people of West Nusa Tenggara a power generator, a report said.

"The people here appreciate President Megawati's promise to provide the power generator in view of the poor capacity to supply electricity in this province," Governor Harun Al-Rasyid was quoted by Antara as saying in Mataram, capital of West Nusa Tenggara.

He said Megawati made the promise when he met with the President in Jakarta last week to report on the poor power supply in his province, which has forced nightly blackouts by rotation.

"Let alone the people's dwellings, even the gubernatorial office and mansion have been subject to rotational power blackouts," Harun told the president then.

Harun said that upon receiving the report, President Megawati gave her promise to provide a high-capacity power generator.

"But I do not know when the President is going to fulfill her promise," the governor said. -- JP
