Megawati envoy to visit Pyongyang

JAKARTA: President Megawati Soekarnoputri special envoy to North Korea Nana Sutresna is slated to visit Pyongyang on Feb. 8 to find ways to support a peaceful settlement on the Korean Peninsula.

"Indonesia was asked to help Pyongyang settle the issue. In response to the request, I will meet North Korean leaders during the visit," Nana said on Wednesday after a meeting with Megawati.

He said his mission would focus on obstacles to dialog between Pyongyang and Washington regarding North Korea's possession of nuclear weapons.

"Pyongyang has asked for assistance from friendly countries and this visit is our response to the request," Nana, a former Indonesian ambassador to England, said.

After visiting Pyongyang, Nana will visit Seoul to explain the results of the meeting with the North Korean leaders.--JP
