Mega sole candidate from PDI-P

JAKARTA: The Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI Perjuangan) has named Megawati Soekarnoputri as the party's sole candidate for the 2004 presidential election.

"We have decided to nominate Megawati Soekarnoputri as Indonesian president from 2004 through 2009," said Pramono Anung, the party's deputy secretary, in Yogyakarta on Sunday.

Megawati, who is the incumbent president, is "the most dedicated in the political field", Pramono said.

PDI Perjuangan also considers Megawati to be a president who sincerely cares about the people, Pramono added.

"We're ready to contest the election. It does not matter if other parties do not nominate her," he said. -- Antara
