Mega delivers aid 2 weeks before poll

KUNINGAN, West Java: Megawati Soekarnoputri, in her capacity as President, handed over aid on Friday to a community in Kuningan regency here.

The aid, a staggering Rp 27 billion (US$ 2.8 million), included, among other things, computers, scholarships and tractors.

The hand over of the aid, only two weeks before the presidential election, was seen as being part of Megawati's political campaign, who is seeking reelection this year. -- JP
