Medical bill to be endorsed soon

JAKARTA: The House of Representatives plans to wrap up its deliberation of the medical practice bill and endorse it in the session beginning in April, a legislator says.

Deputy chairman Sanoesi Tambunan of the House commission for welfare said on Tuesday that not many changes were made to the bill, in consideration of feedback from relevant bodies.

"Instead of being a separate court, the medical court will be established under the general court," said Tambunan, with a status similar to that of the children's court.

People could file cases of medical malpractice to the medical court, he added.

While Tambunan said the malpractice allegations would be reviewed under procedural standards of Law No. 23/1992 on health system, these standards have yet to be drafted. -- JP
