Medan to host ASEAN shuttlers

MEDAN, North Sumatra: The 10 member countries of the
Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) are expected to
send their shuttlers to the ASEAN Student Badminton Competition
to be held here, an organizer said on Sunday.

"We are now preparing the tournament, which will be held from
July 12 to July 19," chief organizer Dahlan Hasan Nasution said.

"Medan was appointed the host of the event at a meeting in
Vietnam last December."

ASEAN is comprised of Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Indonesia,
Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and
Vietnam.

Dahlan said the event would be held at the Badminton
Association of Indonesia (PBSI) Badminton Hall on Jl. Pancing,
Medan.

"We will provide all the facilities needed for an
international event, especially for journalists covering the
event, such as a press room, international telephone line and
Internet connection," he said. -Antara
