Meat supply enough for year-end events

JAKARTA: City slaughterhouse operator PD Dharma Jaya said Saturday that the supply of beef and pork in the city would remain stable during the Christmas and New Year festivities.

"The demand for beef will only slightly increase during the festivities. But, learning from experience of the last few years, the demand for pork will soar," the company's president director Liliansari Loedin said.

She said her company would continue to slaughter 2,000 head of cattle every day as normal.

"But, we will increase the slaughter of pigs to 1,000 per day three days before Christmas until the New Year, higher than the 400 to 500 pigs currently," she said.

Aside from pigs and cattle, Jakarta also consumes 300 goats every day. -- JP
