Measles kill two children

WONOGIRI, Central Java: Two children in Wonogiri, Central Java, have died from measles and 228 are suffering from the contagious disease.

The two fatalities were seven-month-old Sri Lestari of Conto village and two-month-old Nanik of Ceneng village, both in Bulukerto district.

"Both died because they received treatment too late," Wonogiri administration spokesman Sumarno said on Monday.

Almost 90 percent of the children in Bulukerto district are infected with the disease, he said.

The local administration has provided free medication since July 15 to help the children, he said. (har/edt)
