McGrady makes 40 pts as the Magic edges Kings

Associated Press, Orlando, Florida

Tracy McGrady broke the 40-point barrier for the second straight game, scoring 41 points Tuesday as the Orlando Magic held off a Sacramento rally to beat the Kings 125-121.

McGrady, coming off a 47-point performance in a road win at Milwaukee, made 15 of 27 shots and also had eight rebounds and seven assists for the Magic, which is off to a 4-1 start for the first time since 1996-97.

Grant Hill, who sat out the second half of Saturday's victory over the Bucks after feeling pain in his surgically repaired left ankle, had 21 points in 33 minutes while showing no signs of being hampered by the injury that sidelined him most of the last two seasons.

Bobby Jackson scored 16 of his 26 points in the fourth quarter, keying a rally from a 109-91 deficit in the last 8:25. The guard, starting because Mike Bibby is out with a broken foot, scored seven straight for the Kings to trim Orlando's lead to 122-121 with just under a minute to go.

In Cleveland, Zydrunas Ilgauskas scored 23 points as Cleveland won its home opener over the Shaquille O'Neal-less Lakers, whose point total was the franchise's lowest since moving to Los Angeles in 1960.

Ricky Davis added 24 points and Tyrone Hill had 17 rebounds for the Cavs, who dazzled a crowd of 19,833 by blowing out the three-time defending NBA champions.

Previously, the fewest points the Lakers had ever scored in a game since moving from Minneapolis was 74. Los Angeles shot just 32 percent, including 4-of-20 on 3-pointers.

Darius Miles, making his home debut after coming to Cleveland in the Andre Miller trade, added 13 points and told the crowd afterward, "We're going to surprise the world and make the playoffs."

In Miami, Brad Miller scored 28 points and made key plays on both ends of the floor in the final minute to help Indiana beat Miami.

With the game tied at 77-77, Miller lobbed a perfect pass above the rim for Jermaine O'Neal, whose dunk put the Pacers ahead with 50 seconds remaining. Miller then blocked a shot by Eddie Jones, whose strong play helped Miami rally in the fourth quarter.

O'Neal scored 22 points and added 13 rebounds as the Pacers, playing without the injured Reggie Miller (ankle), improved to 3- 1.

In Minneapolis, Kendall Gill rallied Minnesota with nine of his 22 points in the fourth quarter to lead the Timberwolves over Washington.

Kevin Garnett was 5-for-5 in the final period, and finished with 17 points and 16 rebounds for Minnesota, which outscored the Wizards 24-11 in the fourth.

Jerry Stackhouse had 25 points and seven assists, Tyronn Lue scored 13 points and Michael Jordan added 10 on 5-for-14 shooting for Washington, which fell to 1-3.

The game drew an announced crowd of 18,009 - 997 short of capacity. It was only the fourth time since Jordan's return - the first this season - that a Wizards game hasn't sold out.

In San Antomio, Malik Rose hit just the seventh 3-pointer of his career, a 12-meter (39-foot) shot to end a lopsided third quarter, as San Antonio defeated Golden State.

In Houston, Gary Payton had a career-high 18 assists as Seattle almost blew a 20-point fourth-quarter lead before holding off Houston to remain unbeaten.

In Denver, Glenn Robinson was held below 30 points for the first time this season, but Atlanta still won its third consecutive game by defeating Denver.
