McDonald's offers cheap package

JAKARTA (JP): With the skyrocketing prices of services and goods in mind, particularly those for food, McDonald's Indonesia introduced over the weekend its RiceEgg package meal.

Priced at Rp 2,000 (13 U.S. cents), the meal consists of boiled rice, a one-egg omelette and slices of beef and vegetables.

McDonald's Indonesia president Bambang N. Rachmadi said: "This is a reform menu ala McDonald's."

Bambang said the meal was designed to meet the needs of many McDonald's customers who have become more "value oriented" following the economic crisis.

"The RiceEgg meal is one answer to the people's changing consumption pattern," he said.

Due to the prolonged crisis and the mid-May riots, McDonald's has temporarily closed 20 of its 101 outlets throughout the country, Bambang said.

"We had to do that otherwise our financial losses would be much higher," he added. (ind)
