Mayor's wealth report questioned

TANGERANG (JP): A local legislator questioned the veracity of the wealth report submitted by the Tangerang mayor to the Wealth Audit Commission of State Officials.

Ahmad Zailani, a legislator from the National Awakening Party (PKB) told Antara that mayor Moch Thamrin had houses and land at many locations, which are worth more than the Rp 3.2 billion (US$355,555) reported by the mayor to the commission.

"Even my wealth is more than that. The mayor must have assets worth more than he claimed," Zailani said, adding that his wealth totaled Rp 3.6 billion.

Prior to becoming Tangerang mayor, Thamrin held a number of strategic posts in the area. Among the positions were head of Tangerang revenue office and secretary of Tangerang regency at a time when many developers carried out land clearance for housing developments, including the Lippo Group in Karawaci subdistrict.

"There is a possibility that the mayor has submitted a false report to the wealth commission. I'm certain he has more than he has reported," Zailani said. (06)
