Mayor to be tougher on crooked officials

TANGERANG (JP): Tangerang Mayor M. Thamrin said on Tuesday he
would take stern action against his subordinates involved in an
alleged scam in the exchange of a 2.3-hectare plot of land
belonging to Cipondoh subdistrict here.

"I will study the problem first as I have to report to the
West Java governor," Thamrin said.

He said he would not interfere with the local prosecutor's
office which was in charge of investigating the case before it is
taken to court.

The prosecutor's office has thus far questioned several
officials in connection with the alleged scam. (41/jun)
