Mayor termed 'wastephobiac'

PEKANBARU, Riau: Mayor Herman Abdullah says that he doesn't mind residents calling him names because of his campaign to make Pekanbaru a clean city.

"Whatever the name is, I will take it, even "wastephobiac", as long as you really keep the city clean," he told residents here on Monday.

The mayoralty runs several programs, including routine evaluation on the cleanliness of every neighborhood, kelurahan districts, and the regencies.

They are given awards for cleanliness or dirtiness.

Herman asserted that he will take firm action against officials who fail to teach residents about how to keep their neighborhoods clean.

"I will reshuffle the employees, regents, lurah, and even school headmasters who ignore their surroundings," he asserted. --Antara
