Mayor OKs plan for Pinangsia

TANGERANG: The Tangerang municipal administration gave the nod to a plan for the management of Pinangsia office and shopping area, Karawaci, to convert the place into an amusement center, right in the heart of the town.

Mayor Wahidin Halim signed the approval on June 10, said head of tourism agency Iryani Mansyur on Tuesday.

"Decree No. 5/2004 stipulates that amusement businesses such as billiards halls, sauna houses, karaoke lounges, pubs, nightclubs, coffee houses and cafes should all be relocated to Pinangsia by 2007," she added.

The relocation was in line with municipal spatial plans, under which the administration aimed to tighten control over the location of amusement businesses.

Former mayor M. Thamrin refused to sanction such businesses, which had become rampant in the municipality and had reduced the number of potential taxpayers. -- JP
