Mayor hails SPSI

TANGERANG, West Java (JP): Tangerang Mayor Djakaria Machmud said yesterday that workers could develop a strong sense of belonging if their employers treated them as valuable assets.

"A high degree of belonging could also be instilled in the workers if companies could sell five percent of their shares to their employees," Djakaria said after a ceremony here marking the inauguration of the Tangerang Working Unit of the All-Indonesia Workers Union Federation (SPSI).

The mayor said that the union should prove beneficial to both employees and employers.

The office building of the federation branch is now being constructed.

Meanwhile, organizing committee chairman A. Saragih said that there are now 29 working units, 24 of which are in the industrial and service sectors. (18/bas)
