Mayor asks locals to prevent graft

BOGOR: Bogor Mayor Diani Budiarto asked residents to take part in monitoring the municipality's projects in their neighborhoods to help prevent corruption.

"Do not hesitate to report any developers who fail to meet the expected quality in their work," he said on Saturday.

He reminded the residents that they could see the names of the developers and projects, as well as the expected length of construction period on an announcement board posted on the project site.

Diani also handed block grant funds to the municipality's 68 subdistricts. Each subdistrict will receive Rp 50 million to be distributed as soft loans for micro-entrepreneurs.

"I expect accountability and transparency in the use of the fund," he told subdistrict heads.

He added that the block grant disbursed last year was mostly used to build infrastructure.

"We will see if we can raise the amount of the fund next year so it can also be used to empower the residents," he added. -- JP
