Mataram takes care of garbage woes
MATARAM, West Nusa Tenggara: The city authorities are building
a Rp 3 billion garbage dump at Garung village, West Lombok.
"The garbage dump is being built on a 10 hectare plot of land
and will be able to accommodate our garbage for the next 10 to 15
years," Mataram mayor, H.L. Mas'ud, said Tuesday.
He explained that some 700 cubic meters of garbage is
collected everyday.
The sanitation department employs 450 people to help clean up
waste everyday, using 32 trucks and bulldozers.
Antara reported that the city of Mataram has to allocate Rp
700 million each year for waste disposal. (mds)
