Matahari to end 24-hour service
JAKARTA: The Matahari supermarket and department store in Cilandak Town Square in South Jakarta will no longer stay open 24 hours a day beginning on Monday.
The move comes in response to protests by the City Council that Matahari was violating city Bylaw No. 2/2002 on markets.
"Finally they have agreed to end their 24-hour service, for which they have no permit," said the secretary to the council's Commission B for economic affairs, Dani Anwar, after a hearing with Matahari executives on Thursday.
A permit issued on Jan. 13 to Matahari for the Cilandak Town Square location states that the department store and supermarket are allowed to stay open until 10 p.m.
Dani said the city administration should impose sanctions against Matahari for violating the bylaw.--JP
