Masturbation and marriage

Doctor Sri Utami of Purwodadi, Central Java, has stirred me up with her health article A secret shared: Masturbation in marriage published in The Jakarta Post on June 27, 1999.

In my opinion, apart from religious norms and teaching, masturbation among men and women, including teenagers, besides being closely related to sex fantasies, seems to indicate normality. Such is described by Joe Weider and Kevin Cobb in their book: Men's fitness magazine's complete guide to health and well being. They said further, that sex fantasies are incredibly common for most men. They also said in one study discussed in the Kinsey Institute New Report on Sex, men were asked how frequently they thought about sex.

The average teenager, to no one's surprise, reported having a sexual thought every five minutes; the average 40-something guy admitted to having one every half an hour.

Hence, when Dr. Sri Utami said that a wife was shocked when one night she walked in to find her husband masturbating while watching TV, should not have been too surprising.
