Masters works on display

JAKARTA (JP): Le Musee Imaginaire, a celebrated association of painters, will hold an exhibition of 100 "imitated" paintings of world-famous masterpieces from July 12 to July 19 at the Jakarta Hilton Hotel's Lagoon Tower.

The association's director, Karim Jallaul said yesterday that the imitated paintings on display will include the works of such masters as Picasso, Renoir, Van Gogh, Monet, Gauguin, Matisse, Rembrandt and Chagall.

"The painters of these imitated masterpieces knew very well the detailed characteristics of their original masters, either their color tones, themes, material choices or their difficult painting techniques." Jallaul said. "So those paintings look exactly like the originals," he said. Karim did not identify the imitators.

"Celebrity customers of Le Musee Imaginaire include Elizabeth Taylor, Sophia Loren, Frank Sinatra and Arnold Schwarzenegger," said Dieter Prachner, the organizing director of Le Musee. (26)
