Massive jams in Ketapang port

DENPASAR, Bali: An influx of holiday makers is causing massive jams in Ketapang, East Java, with vehicles queuing for up to eight hours in to board the ferry across the Bali Strait to Gilimanuk, Bali.

On Wednesday long lines of intercity buses, trucks, and private cars could be seen at the small East Java port, located some 210 kilometers southeast of Surabaya.

Overnight bus passenger Ketut Suarja said that "many bus passengers became impatient and decided to get off their buses, board the ferry and cross individually".

Antara reported that the school holidays had also prompted bus operators to hike their prices by about Rp 10,000.

Suarja said that passengers were being charged Rp 45,000 a trip from Malang, East Java to Ubung bus terminal in Denpasar.(10)
