Mass prayer for peace in Bali

JAKARTA: The Indonesian Evangelical Association will hold a mass prayer meeting in Denpasar, Bali, on Nov. 29 for the peace and well-being of the country.

"Even after the bombing, we would like to underline that Bali remains a safe place, and we will pray for the safety of the nation as a whole," the association's chairman, the Revd. Bambang Widjaja, said on Wednesday after a meeting with President Megawati Soekarnoputri.

Bambang said that some 10,000 Christians were expected to attend the gathering, with representatives from churches around the world among the participants.

"We are grateful that many churches from around the world have said they will participate in the prayer meeting," the Revd. Bambang told a media conference.

He said the association supported the government's effort to solve the bombing, but would resist any attempts to associate terrorist acts with a certain religion.

"We believe that there is no religion in the world that condones terrorism," Bambang said. --JP
