Mass prayer arranged

SURABAYA: A number of consuls of foreign missions here will attend a mass prayer organized by the provincial branch of Indonesia's largest Moslem organization Nahdlatul Ulama (NU), Antara reported yesterday.

Organizer Hasyim Muzadi said the thousands of people to gather at the local sports stadium on Sunday would pray for the safety of the nation and the ummah(Moslem community), and that no political reference would be made.

A number of observers, including prominent Moslem scholar Nurcholish Madjid, will also attend the prayer organized in conjunction with the organization's 73rd anniversary next month.

"We need to pray for this nation..degradation has reached an alarming level..we need to do something to prevent Allah's wrath upon us," Muzadi said. (swe)
