JAKARTA (JP): PT Asuransi Lippo Life Tbk announced on Monday the appointment of former minister Marzuki Usman as its deputy chairman to boost its e-commerce business.

Company chairman Billy Sindoro said in a statement on Monday that Marzuki brought with him considerable experience in economic, banking, financial and insurance affairs. Marzuki is a former minister of investment, tourism, arts and culture.

Lippo Life announced last week plans to become Indonesia's leading Internet business outlet, allocating Rp 1 trillion (US$142 million) for the project.

Most of the investment is earmarked for developing computer infrastructure and hiring information technology professionals.

The business will cover Internet insurance brokerage, banking, securities brokerage, Internet shopping and provision of Internet infrastructure. (03)
