Maritime law to be revised

BATAM: The government is considering the revision of Law No. 21/1992 on maritime to make it applicable to current conditions, Minister of Transportation Agum Gumelar said Monday.

The law regulates maritime-related issues such as the sea borders between Indonesia and neighboring countries Malaysia and Singapore.

The minister said that the existing law was inadequate in dealing with foreign fishing boats and sea pirates.

He did not indicate when the revision will be submitted to the House of Representatives nor did he specify the revision's completion date. --Antara
