Marine information center to be built

JAKARTA: Spain will help build a marine information center in the Central Java coastal town of Cilacap in a bid to help develop Indonesia's marine resources, a minister said.

Spain chose Cilacap because the town had a reliable port in Tanjung Inten, Coordinating Minister for Political Affairs and Security Soesilo Soedarman said after meeting with President Soeharto at Merdeka Palace on Monday.

The President heads the National Marine Council, Antara reported.

The marine information center in Cilacap, about 350 km southeast of here, will be the first of its kind in the country.

Soesilo however did not elaborate on Spain's assistance.
