Marijuana pays student's tuition

BANDUNG, West Java: A student who was cultivating marijuana plants said he did it to pay his tuition, Antara reported on Thursday.

Sud, 26, a student at a private university here, said he grew four marijuana plants behind his home in the Cimahi district here, and used part of the money from the sale of the marijuana for his daily needs and his tuition.

The student was arrested in a raid on his house on Tuesday night, Bandung Police chief Lt. Col. Hendra Sukmana said.

He said residents had reported there were marijuana plants in Sud's garden, two of them reaching two meters high.

Hendra quoted Sud as saying that he obtained the seeds for the plants from a fellow student.
