Marijuana growers turned in

PONTIANAK, West Kalimantan: Police found on Friday about 3,000 marijuana plants growing in the Sintang district of the Sungai Urak Forest area, West Kalimantan, Antara reported Monday.

The crops were reportedly planted by residents on a 0.2- hectare plot and a 0.25-hectare plot in Mengkurat Baru village, West Kalimantan Police spokesman Suhadi said.

Police also arrested three suspects and seized 1.2 ounces of dried marijuana found on two motorcycles.

The discovery was made after residents became suspicious of people in the village who were unemployed but seemed to prosper. (edt)
