Many 'Mercado' women anemic

DILI, East Timor: About 60 percent of housewives living in the area called Mercado (market) Lama are anemic, a local health official said recently.

Antara quoted Martha Handoko on Saturday as blaming the unhealthy environment for the problem.

Her office plans to fight the prevalence of anemia by asking the local community to participate in a health program which provides free health services for its members.

About 3,000 people have expressed interest in joining the program. (31)
