Many banks target of robberies

JAKARTA: Eleven banks in Central Jakarta are considered a high risk target of armed robbery, an official said on Tuesday.

Comr. A.R. Yoyol, the Central Jakarta Police detectives chief, said that the police had deployed 44 officers to safeguard those banks.

There are more than 100 banks located in Central Jakarta, according to Yoyol.

He said the police would assign 79 police officers to back up the banks' security personnel in Central Jakarta, due to an increase in bank robberies.

Police recorded at least four armed robbery cases of bank customers in Central Jakarta this month.

Ten cases of armed robbery of bank customers in the capital were reported this month as compared to three cases in September. --JP
