Manulife donates insurance policies

JAKARTA (JP): PT Asuransi Jiwa Manulife Indonesia handed over life and accidental insurance policies worth Rp 20 billion (US$2.63 million) for national athletes and coaches to compete in the Olympic Games in Sydney in September.

A memorandum of understanding confirming the terms and conditions of the insurance was signed Wednesday by President Director of Manulife Indonesia Philip Hampden-Smith and the National Sports Council (KONI) chairman Wismoyo Arismunandar at Hotel Mulia Senayan. The insurance coverage begins on May 1 and finishes on Oct. 10.

"The donation is to show our concern and support of sports development in Indonesia, especially to the Olympics contingent," Hampden-Smith said.

Wismoyo urged national companies to follow the steps of multinational companies in financially supporting the council. KONI has received Rp 1 billion in goods from fast food firm McDonalds Indonesia and US$100,000 in cash and goods from PT Samsung Electronics Indonesia. (yan)
