Manggarai residents accept compensation

All but one of the twelve residents of the Manggarai subdistrict in Tebet, South Jakarta, have agreed on the compensation price of their land which is being appropriated for the construction of a new underpass road.

The eleven residents whose land is located along the Jl. Dr. Sahardjo agreed to a per square meter price of Rp 425,000 (US$194.2) for land, Rp 360,000 for a house, and Rp 560,000 for two story buildings.

However one resident by the name of Bintoro continues to refuse, claiming that the compensation is too low.

"Quite honestly I object to such a price," he said demanding an all in price of Rp 1.5 million per square meter for his 65 meter lodging.

In obvious frustration at his neighbors, Bintoro asked that the project officers examine the ownership of the other eleven residents to examine the authenticity of their land certificates. (mds)
