Manado councillors to settle deadlock

MANADO, North Sulawesi: Some council leaders flew to Jakarta on Wednesday to consult central government officials over a recent deadlock on the establishment of commissions at the North Sulawesi Legislative Council.

The leaders represented all disputing factions at the provincial council, said Syachrial Damopolii, the speaker of the council.

The dispute came after some factions insisted that there should be more than four commissions at the provincial council, while others rejected the proposal. The councillors were elected into office in the April 5 legislative election. -- JP
