Man uses 'shabu-shabu' to spice up sex life

JAKARTA (JP): Laughter resounded at a West Jakarta District court room when a defendant admitted before judges on Monday that he had used shabu-shabu (crystal methamphetamine) to "enhance his sexual ability."

"I used to inhale the drug before I had sex with my female partners, Judge," said Jimmy Wijaya, in a trial session held at West Jakarta District Court, presided over by judge Bey Mastur.

The 27-year-old defendant said he had used the drug for three months.

"I only used the drug on Saturday nights, when I brought prostitutes to hotel rooms," said the salesman of a sock company.

There were no attendants at Monday's hearing, except for five print journalists.

Jimmy said he was arrested by several police detectives on the seventh floor of Hotel Arwana on Jl. Mangga Besar in West Jakarta at 2 a.m. on Aug. 1, this year.

"The prostitute, Diah, had already gone when I started inhaling shabu-shabu," he said to the judge.

Police seized about 240 milligrams of shabu-shabu, packed in a white plastic bag, along with instruments for inhaling the sedative drugs.

Jimmy, a resident of Jelambar subdistrict in West Jakarta said he used to buy the drugs on the terrace of Kabuki Discotheque on Jl. Mangga Besar from an unknown dealer.

"I bought 480 milligrams of shabu-shabu that night, but I only used half of it," he said.

The presiding judge teased the defendant for using drugs before having sex, saying that he was a "weak" young man.

"You are still young and apparently strong. It is not necessary for you to use drugs to enhance your sexual ability," said the judge.

The defendant left in silence.

Prosecutor M. Mulyana Hasmi said the defendant had violated article 62 of the 1997 Law on Psychotropic Drugs, which carries a maximum punishment of five years in jail.

"The defendant has been proven to be in possession of drugs," the prosecutor said at Monday's hearing. (asa)
