Man tried for producing fake oil

TANGERANG: A man went on trial before the Tangerang District Court on Thursday for producing fake lubricating oil.

Prosecutor Rustam Nawawi said that defendant Herman, alias Afu, 35, produced the fake oil on Sept. 25 last year, and put it into empty cans and bottles bearing the names of popular oil brands such as Top-1, Formula 1, Mesran and Meditron S.

Nawawi charged the defendant with violating Article 90 of Law No. 15/2000 on Trademarks, which carried a maximum punishment of five-years imprisonment and a fine of Rp 1 billion.

In another courtroom, prosecutor Puji Rahardjo read out the indictment against Ichwan Indrawan, alias Ong Cing Yong, 50, who was accused of embezzling Rp 688 million belonging to the employees' cooperative of PT Hadaya Aneka Shoes Industry.

The alleged crime was conducted between January 2000 and November 2001, when the defendant was chairman of the cooperative, which then had 2,700 members.

The defendant could be sentenced to a maximum of five years in jail if found guilty.--JP
