Man tried for possessing drugs
JAKARTA (JP): A 24-year-old man was indicted at West Jakarta District Court yesterday for possessing 0.8 grams of heroin and 58.83 grams of dried marijuana.
Prosecutor Azwar said police officers arrested the defendant, M. Sholeh, on Nov. 13 last year during an operation along Jl. Lada, Pisangan in West Jakarta.
Azwar said the defendant, a resident of Jl. Mangga Besar, West Jakarta, was on an ojek (motorcycle taxi) when the officers stopped and inspected motorcycles.
"Police found two small packages containing the heroin and the marijuana in the defendant's pocket."
Sholeh, a parking attendant, admitted buying the illegal goods from a dealer, Kho Nyang Yang, and indicated his intention to sell the drugs to Tanto, he said.
Kho and Tanto are still at large, he said.
Sholeh was charged under Article 78 (1) of the Law No. 22/1997 on narcotics.
Presiding judge Emmy Sinaga adjourned the trial until next week to hear witnesses' statements. (jun)
