Man suspected of killing wife

JAKARTA (JP): Cilincing Police in North Jakarta arrested a man for allegedly beating his wife and causing her death on Friday.

Police chief First. Insp. Cecep Ibrahim said the suspect, Dedi, 27, beat up his wife, Sri, 25, at their rented home in Kandang subdistrict.

"We suspect Dedi beat up his wife out of rage and because of jealousy," Cecep told reporters.

The couple married two years ago.

One of the couple's neighbors, Ahmad, said an angry Dedi slapped Sri around and kicked her in the stomach in front of dumbfounded neighbors, who did nothing to stop the domestic violence.

Ahmad said Sri had slept in the house of a friend, Suryani.

The drama ended with the suspect cutting off his wife's hair.

Sri was rushed to Cilincing Hospital but died two hours after receiving medical treatment. (ylt)
