Man shot to death in clash

JAKARTA: A man was shot to death and three other people were severely injured in a gang shootout on Jl. Kemang IV No. 9 in Bangka subdistrict, South Jakarta, on Tuesday night.

The deceased was identified Samsi S Tuasah, 34, an Army's chief sergeant from Bandung. He died from a gunshot wound in the chest and right leg. His body was taken to the Cipto Mangunkusumo Central Hospital (RSCM)'s morgue in Central Jakarta.

The three people injured in the violence were identified as Hercules, who was shot in the stomach, Syamsuddin, who suffered a severe cut to his hand, and Supriyadi, a passing biker, who was shot in the face.

Hercules, notorious as the "informal thug of Tanah Abang", was taken to the Graha Medika Hospital in Kebon Jeruk, West Jakarta, while Supriyadi was taken to RSCM.

Syamsuddin and Paul, the house owner where the incident occurred, are being detained at the South Jakarta Police precinct for questioning.

The police have not given a cause for the fight, but witnesses said the two-minute clash began after Paul's house, which was guarded by Hercules' men, was attacked by 10 armed men. The police also seized three cars as evidence. -- JP
