Man shot dead during assault

BOGOR (JP): A man, identified as Armada, 35, was shot and killed for resisting arrest in Cigudeg village in the early hours of Friday.

Police alleged Armada was a member of a gang of eight men reportedly involved in a series of killings and robberies.

"He assaulted an officer with a knife during a raid in Cigudeg village. Warning shots were fired but he kept attacking the officer and soon after he was shot in the chest," First Lt. Santun Marpaung said on Saturday.

Armada reportedly died on the way to a nearby hospital.

"Three other men in the gang, Husep Hermawan, Edi, also known as Bebek, and Suna, are currently serving sentences at Pledang Penitentiary in Bogor," Santun said.

The other four men, Margunuk, Dadang, Fauzi, also known as Bule, and Adang, were put on the wanted list.

Among the cases reportedly involving the gang was the robbery and murder on March 10 of Sukardi, also known as Adun, 35, who was an illegal gold miner who lived in Cibeber Kulon village in Curug Bitung, Nanggung.

Many vendors and kiosk owners in Nanggung area alleged the gang frequently extorted money from them.

The gang members used sharp weapons as well as assembled guns to threaten and use on their victims. (21/edt)
