Man shot dead by Brimob officer

JAKARTA: An officer of the police's elite Mobile Brigade (Brimob) unit was involved in a fatal shooting on Thursday, killing one resident and injuring two others in Duren Sawit, East Jakarta.

The incident occurred when the first brigadier spotted the three men gambling on Jl. Soekamto Hospital at about 2 p.m.

The police officer started to quarrel with them, which led to the fatal shooting of Nurhikmah.

Risti Erico was shot in the thigh and Sanusi Anwar suffered injuries to the back.

City police spokesman Sr. Comr. Prasetyo said the officer used a standard Brimob rifle and was not in uniform.

Meanwhile, city police chief Insp. Gen. Makbul Padmanegara said the officer would be fired from the police force.

"We will severely reprimand the officer, residents can be sure of that," he said.-- JP.
