Man sentenced for vandalism

BOGOR (JP): Bogor District Court sentenced on Wednesday Aris bin Icang, 20, for vandalizing a phone booth and stealing the coins from it.

Judge Sri Kasiyani said in the hearing that Aris, who is unemployed, was told by his friend Pirdi on Dec. 22 last year that the coin box in the phone beside the Bogor Attorney General's Office was unlocked.

"Aris decided to take the coins so he took out the coin box. He then took Rp 4,600 and put the box back again," Sri said, adding that Aris was arrested later by officials in the building.

The sentence was three months less than the term sought by the prosecutor. The man was convicted under Article 363 of the Criminal Code for stealing. The article carries a maximum sentence of nine years imprisonment. (24/edt)
