Man sentenced for murder

TANGERANG: The Tangerang District Court sentenced on Monday a man to six years imprisonment for killing a neighbor, who was accused of assaulting the defendant's brother.

Presiding Judge Agus Budiarto said defendant Arpin Jalaludin, 20, a resident of Rawa Bambu village in Juru Mudi subdistrict, Benda district of Tangerang, was found guilty of killing his neighbor Abdillah, 25, on Feb. 2 this year.

The incident started when the defendant's brother, Zarkani, and his friend Deni passed by the house of Achmad Zaihu, his neighbor, who was chatting with Abdillah, Zainal and Yusnadi.

Zarkani laughed at Zainal as he had a nasal voice. Zainal felt offended and he, along with his three friends attacked Zarkani. Deni ran away, but he soon returned with Arpin, who was armed with a knife. Arpin then stabbed Abdillah twice.

Prosecutor Diah Ambarwati had earlier asked the court to sentence the defendant to eight years in prison. --JP
