Man nabbed for spying on girls

TANGERANG: An IT worker was arrested late on Monday after neighbors at his boarding house discovered a hidden camera in the bedroom ceiling of three female university students.

The 27-year-old, identified only as LY, was arrested late on Monday. He stayed next-door to the girls at the Lippo Karawaci housing estate, police said.

The man admitted he had installed the camera to "spy" on one of the women next door he had a crush on. The camera had been installed for two months, police said.

Suspicious about the holes at the ceiling, one of the women asked the security guard of the boarding house to check it. The guard found a cable attached to a small camera connected to the suspect's room.

Tangerang Police chief of detectives Adj. Comr. Asep Adi Saputra said on Tuesday afternoon his officers had seized a laptop and a mini TV set attached to the camera. They were still investigating whether the suspect had made videotapes and sold them as pornography, he said.--JP
