Man nabbed for killing mom's lover

JAKARTA (JP): Police arrested an 18-year-old man for allegedly killing his mother's boyfriend in Senen, Central Jakarta, an officer said yesterday.

Central Jakarta Police Chief Capt. Mulyono said Munadi beat Waryono, 39, on the head with a piece of wood early Monday morning.

Munadi got angry when he saw Waryono drunk, Mulyono said.

He said local residents found Waryono, who was a driver in a steel shop in the area, lying on the ground. The victim was rushed to Jakarta Islamic Hospital, but died that afternoon, the police chief said.

He said police arrested Munadi Monday night in Kwitang, Central Jakarta, after chasing the suspect to a relative's house in Bogor.

Munadi told police that he was ashamed about the love affair that his mother, Muini, 40, had with Waryono.

The suspect said he beat Waryono when he saw the victim walking alone at the scene.

In another incident, police shot and killed a man for resisting arrest in Senen, Central Jakarta, yesterday.

Capt. Mulyono said police shot Agus Eko, 22, after he and two accomplices, Heru and Heri, robbed a passerby, Husen, of Rp 80,000 (US$33.30).

He said police pursued the three men after receiving a report from Husen.

Eko and Heru were arrested, but Heri managed to escape, he said.

Police shot Eko in the stomach after he ignored a police warning, he said. Eko died on the way to Kramatjati Police Hospital, he added. (jun)
