Man nabbed for fathering daughter's son

BOJONEGORO, East Java: Residents of Kadipaten village in the East Java town of Bojonegoro have been shocked by the birth of a son to a neighbor and his 17-year-old daughter.

The scandal surfaced last Friday when neighbors saw 53-year- old Sugeng's daughter carrying a baby on her return from nearby Cepu. Sugeng's wife Lastri told her neighbors that her daughter, Lis, had given birth after having sex with her husband last year.

Sugeng was arrested for further investigation after Hardijono, head of the village, reported the scandal to the local police.

The suspect, who has six children with Lastri, reportedly confessed to having sex with his daughter, saying he wanted to have more children.

A chronic rheumatic, he said he was frustrated with his four sons because they were unemployed and did not take care of him. He instead approached Lis while his wife was working their land, which she does every day.

The suspect, who has a furniture business, said he did not want to make his wife pregnant because she was due to have gynecological surgery at the local hospital.

Lis admitted to having sex with her father, saying she was not forced or threatened into it, but that she sympathized with her father. --Antara
